TERIMA KASIH
MAKASI derives from the Bahasa Indonesian term
TERIMA (receive) KASIH (give),
used as an expression of thankfulness!
OUR
STORY
MAKASI initiative stands upon a social and environmental
responsibility, to educate and offer handcrafted eco-solutions
to the community as a whole.
To create not only eco-friendly products with a paramount
quality design, but to strive progressively within a green
business enterprise instituting sustainable practices in every
angle while emplacing an ecologically consumer mind set at
the same time.
The research took over a year, from visiting bamboo forests,
connecting with the local harvests and producers in
Indonesia. The full collaboration with the local community,
hands on, allowed MAKASI founders to meet the Almighty
Bamboo” in its natural grounds. To learn and respect the
bamboo, the primal resource and its eco-viability attributes
applied it to its final product. The wave of positive feedback
made the ride so enjoyable and inspiring.
In addition MAKASI embraces a bigger initiative, with a
company-educating effort through out the local community,
donating batches of natural bamboo straws to the beach
Warungs' (local restaurants) to engage the habit and
practice of eco-choices for sustainable living.
Being the difference, making it count.
PLASTIC
POLLUTION
Plastic is literally at our fingertips every day.
From our toothbrush & cosmetic products,
to breakfast, lunch, coffee or dinner packaging,
the shoes we walk in, plastic bottles & plastic straws
we drink from, keyboards & pens we write with,
plastic bags we carry around… You name it.
The amount of plastic we encounter daily doesn't
end there.
Plastic has become a challenge, a substance
the Earth cannot digest.
But where does all this plastic go?
Every plastic ever made still exists in a certain form.
Most of it floats in our oceans or is buried deep
under ground.
WHERE DOES IT GO?
50 % of plastic products are
used once and thrown away.
90% of all trash floating in
the world’s oceans is plastic.
WHERE IS THE END OF IT?
Plastics can end up in a sea of floating
garbage, swept up into slow moving currents
- called GYRES.
MASS PRODUCTION
Over the last ten years we have produced
more plastic than during the
whole last century.

The Indonesian
archipelago is the second
largest polluter in terms
of plastic, just after
China. Located in the
heart of the famous Coral
Triangle, the Indonesian
maritime territory is home
to the highest level of
biodiversity in the world.
Coral Triangle
A new study suggests there is
about 16 times more waste
than previously thought
floating there. The mass of
waste spans!617,763
square miles(1.6 million
square km), about three
times the size of France.

A CIRCLE
OF PRODUCTION
!
!We collect our bamboo straws in collaboration with the
local farmers of Java & Bali. These straws are treated using
only natural technics.!!
!
! At the same time we give something back to the Bali
community - part of our straw production is handed out for
free to the local Warungs (restaurants), contributing to the
reduction of single-use plastic.!!
!
!Once our straws have lived a long & tasteful life - you
can use them up to 200 times, if you love them! - they easily
decompose. The bamboo returns back to nature.
MAKASI product line supports the
sustainable alternative to environmental
pollution and the local community
